Web design for Nanaimo childcare

Website Design for Childcare Centres in Nanaimo

Nanaimo had the strongest population growth of the three cities we looked at between 2016 and 2021, and then it slowed sharply, with the greater area adding only about 1.17 percent in the year to mid-2025, the lowest since 2021. That combination, real recent growth followed by a genuine slowdown, is the honest backdrop for a child care business here. It is also a market where supply is thin: only two designated $10 a Day centres appear in the provincial list for the whole area.

What a Nanaimo Website Needs

Two designated centres

About 2 of BC's 368 designated $10 a Day centres are in the Nanaimo area. Show your status plainly.

Growth that slowed

Up 10.3% from 2016 to 2021, then the slowest growth since 2021. Planning decisions need the real trend.

Island Health licensing

Nanaimo is licensed by Island Health under the Community Care and Assisted Living Act.

Fee transparency

Reductions reach $900 a month for under-threes in group care. Show your rate beside the reduction.

Real neighborhood names

Harewood, East Nanaimo, Cowichan Bay, Chase River. Nano Bay and Lantzville are outside the city.

Ferry-aware hours

The ferry and highway corridors shape which hours work. State them, and the right families self-select.

Your website is the first tour most Nanaimo families take

Before anyone calls, most families have already walked your website on a phone, usually at night, usually after the last ferry and before the bedtime. They are checking three things: whether you are close to them, what you actually charge, and whether there is a spot for their child. A site built for that job answers those questions quietly, without making anyone email you for basic information.

01

Tell the truth about the market, because it is changing

Nanaimo's population reached 99,863 at the 2021 Census, up 10.3 percent from 2016, the strongest growth of the Island cities in that period. The greater Nanaimo area was about 129,750 as of July 1 2025, but that was a 1.17 percent increase and the lowest annual growth since 2021. A childcare centre planning capacity decisions needs to know that. So does a parent deciding whether to move. Both of them are reading your website, and neither of them benefits from a growth story that stopped being true.

02

Two designated centres is a real, checkable fact about supply

The provincial list of $10 a Day ChildCareBC centres names about two locations in the Nanaimo area, one in the Harewood area and one at Chase River. For a city of roughly 100,000 people that is thin coverage, and the province's Budget 2026 paused new providers from joining the designated program for three years while it stabilizes. If you are one of those centres, say so and link your listing. If you are not, publish your real rate clearly. Families here are already comparing, and a site that makes them work is better than one that makes them ask.

03

Publish the fee and the reduction side by side

At a designated $10 a Day centre, full-time fees come down to no more than two hundred dollars a month for a child twelve and under. At every other licensed centre, families pay your rate reduced by the Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative, which can reach nine hundred dollars a month for under-threes in group care and five hundred and forty-five for three-year-olds through kindergarten. A 2026 national study put British Columbia's infant fees at twenty-eight to fifty-two dollars a day, the highest in the country. Families on the Island are doing that arithmetic. Do it for them.

04

Name the neighborhoods, and know which ones are not in the city

Downtown and the Old City Quarter are walkable and apartment-heavy with a substantial renter population. Harewood is established and central, with parks and easy downtown access. East Nanaimo and North Nanaimo are primarily detached family homes with schools and parks. Cowichan Bay is a waterfront community with a marina and newer subdivisions. Chase River sits where the built-up area meets rural Cedar. Note that Nano Bay and Lantzville are outside the city, in different local governments, and should not be claimed as city neighborhoods.

05

Island Health licensing, and a market that runs on reputation

Nanaimo child care is licensed by Island Health under the Community Care and Assisted Living Act and the Child Care Licensing Regulation. In a mid-sized Island market with limited designated supply, a published licence and a clear description of your program types do real work. Parents comparing two centres will notice which site explains the difference between a licensed centre and a family child care home, because almost none of them do.

06

Design for a ferry-and-highway commute

Families here cross the island for work, and the ferry and highway corridors shape which hours are usable. State your hours, your closure days, how far ahead you book, and what happens in the two weeks around a school holiday. A parent on a fixed schedule will decide against you if your hours do not line up, and they should make that decision from your website rather than from a wasted phone call.

Say where the growth is, and say where it slowed

A Nanaimo parent in Harewood or East Nanaimo wants to know you are close before they care what your logo looks like, and a family considering moving here deserves to see both the real growth and the real slowdown. Naming the communities you actually serve brings in families who can genuinely enrol, and being honest about your limits filters out the drive-by enquiries that were never going to convert.

01

Honest Assessment First

We start by telling you whether a redesign is right, or whether a smaller fix would serve you better. A new site is not always the answer.

02

Nanaimo-Ready Build

A site built around the questions Nanaimo parents actually ask: fees, neighborhoods, licensing and waitlists, answered plainly and verified against current sources.

03

Built to Fill Spaces

Mobile-first, fast, and structured around enrollment. Real local content, not a template with your logo on it.
